Landscapes (2001–2023)

I draw on physically recognizable Caribbean landscapes, with their trees, mountains, bodies of water and expanses of sky. Depicting night as often as day, there is a familiar sense of Place. Yet landscape painting, for me, is always a challenging journey into the unknown. In actuality, these paintings are ‘mindscapes’ or ‘soulscapes’. They are often moody and mysterious. There is a response in my work to the Gothic thread running through our Caribbean histories. Our landscapes are haunted by stories told and untold, and by stories denied.
